Doing business responsibly

Running a sustainable business benefits everyone, including our customers. When we use natural resources economically, not wastefully, we show respect for the environment as well as for our customers’ costs. The two go hand in hand.

The same applies to our dealings with people.  When setting up in new locations, we create a strong connection to the local community and make efforts to ensure everyone benefits from our presence. Among other things, this means hiring a large portion of our staff locally. Providing stable employment and training to unskilled or semi-skilled labourers (the low-income majority) is arguably RA’s most significant contribution to our host communities, as it impacts directly on the wellbeing of our employees’ families and thereby on the economy in general. At the same time, we are careful not to impose on the local culture.

In this way, we establish the prerequisites for our customers’ long-term success — an efficient set-up and a cooperative local community.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
We believe that private enterprises have an important role to play in overcoming some of the world’s most serious challenges and reaching the targets set out in the SDGs.

Much of what we do at RA – from specific community engagement initiatives to the way we conduct our daily business  – makes a contribution to the SDGs. However, we are strongly aware of the need to join forces with others, to find synergies, combine skills and pool resources in an effort to achieve real impact.
Our community engagement work involves identifying and working with multiple partners, and therefore links directly to SDG 17: Revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.

The UN Global Compact

RA categorically supports the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact. Since we operate in such complex, and often unstable environments, the 10th principle is especially important to us. It requires participants to not only avoid corruption, but also to develop policies and concrete programmes to address it. With this in mind, RA’s business relationships are firmly founded on honesty, fairness and trust.

RA is proud to hold the following certifications: ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, ISO 22000:2005.

H&S standards
All our customers’ operations involve risks – from heavy loads and heights to the presence of explosives and potentially hazardous equipment. For obvious reasons, health and safety occupies an especially critical position in our business.

We work relentlessly to create a safe workplace that supports high quality standards with minimal impact on the environment. We also make every effort to ensure our procedures and protocol support our Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) standards and we stress the importance of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), commitment to HSE regulations, and general awareness of the environmental risks involved.
Each project has its own customised Security Plan and all personnel receive induction training as well as regular refresher courses on what to do in the event of an emergency.

Thanks to all of this and our amazing staff, RA has been vigilant in ensuring a high track record in safety.
